Hi my name is Amy and I’m 16 years old. When I was 14, my mum kept telling me to stand up straight and I never could. Soon after, we realized my back wasn’t straight so we went to the hospital where I was told I had scoliosis. My curves measured at 90° and 66° and was told straight away the only option would be surgery. I was too far along for a brace to help me, and I was put on the emergency list for surgery in November 2018.

I had surgery on the 8th July 2019. I’m fused T3-L4 and nearly 11 months post op. After surgery it was difficult to sit up in a chair for longer than 5 minutes, and it felt impossible, but as the days went on it got easier everyday. The first couple months post op were challenging with pain, but after that the pain got easier everyday and I started to feel more confident that I could do it and tried to get back to what i use to do instead of just staying in bed all day.

Now I’m pretty much doing what I use to do before surgery with only a few restrictions!
