When I was 11 I was diagnosed with scoliosis by my school nurse. I don’t know much about the condition and didn’t think much of it. Months later I was referred to the hospital to get an x-ray to see how big my curve was. Turns out it was around 50° which meant I would need surgery. I went for an MRI scan to check that my nerves were all good and a few months later I had another x-ray done to see whether my curve had progressed, and it had. It was around 63°. A few months after that I went for a pre-op and then soon had my surgery wen I was 13 years old.

I was in hospital for a week before coming home and recovery was very tough… but I managed to get through it! My back has almost no curve now and I’m really happy with the way my body looks. I’m currently 15 years old and nearly 2 years post op. My back is doing really well now and I’m back to normal activities.

To anyone who is having surgery soon, good luck you can do it. You’re so much stronger than you think!
