My name is Amy Ackling and I am 16. I live in the UK.

I got diagnosed with scoliosis at the start of 2018 when my parents noticed a curve in my back along with an uneven shoulder blade. Shortly after they made an appointment with my GP, I got referred to an orthopaedic doctor to look at my spine. My doctor determined that I would need surgery to fix my curve.

After a couple appointments I had my pre-op on the 15th August 2018, the next morning we had a call from the hospital saying there was a cancellation and I could have my surgery in a couple days. I had my surgery on the 18th August 2018 and ever since my life has only gotten better. Scoliosis makes me who I am and I am proud of who I have become.

Although the journey was tough, and hospital time was not fun, I got through it with a positive mind and have been much happier since! Nobody ever wants to get huge back surgeries in their teen years, but I embraced my experience and am happy I am pain free.

You are so strong and if you are getting surgery, good luck and stay strong!
