One of my goals for 2020 is to promote more awareness towards scoliosis. I’ve kept my experience to myself since I was a young girl, and I have a tendency to mask the challenges I face living with this condition. Because all I wanted after wearing a back brace for 3 years was to be “back to normal.”

After getting my spine straightened from spinal fusion surgery I also just wanted it to magically go away. I thought there was no point in sharing because most days were the same, so it was old news. But I now realize this is doing a disservice to others who might be going through the same experience, who have questions. Even though everyone’s experience is unique, it’s still comforting to talk to someone going through the same thing.

I hope to one day be able to share with you all that I am pain free. (Update I have been pain free since Feb 2020) Right now I’m working on turning off the twisting feeling of my rib cage using a method called posture therapy go get all the muscles back to working in harmony instead of compensating for each other. If you experience any pain, try schroth and yoga exercises! They really helped me through a lot of the pain I was facing, and can help you too.

Be proud of your curvy back!
